1 (10oz.) pkg. frozen sliced okra, or equivalent amount of fresh sliced okra
1 (7oz.) pkg. OAK GROVE SMOKEHOUSE CREOLE GUMBO MIX
6 cups water
Saute' fresh okra 15-20 minutes before adding to gumbo. Combine shrimp, Gumbo Mix, water and sauteed okra in a 2 qt. saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, stir and simmer 20-25 minutes. When using frozen okra, add during the last 15 minutes of cooking time. Serves 4-6.
Variations:
1. Add a 1 lb. can tomatoes, chopped, and reduce water by 1 cup.
2. For Seafood Gumbo, replace part of shrimp with crabs, fish, oysters or other seafood.
